13/10/10

As we have spent so much time on filming we are slightly behind schedule on editing. We used today to catch up.

Editing:
We didnt so very much editing in this lesson because we felt as though we did not have very much time. We decided to focus on the four flashback shots. These turned out to be only a total of 4 seconds but by using dip to whites we made this look very effective.

How did we do this?

1. We separated our footage and placed it at the beginning of our timeline.

2. We cut out long shots and kept the most effective ones

3. We had to cut each shot down to the minimal this was very hard to get right as each shot had to be 1 second each.

4. Using the effects tool, we dragged over a black and white technique. (We wanted to use black and white in all of our flashbacks to separate this from our original story line)

5. We then added a dip to white in between every shot, this made it snappy and attractive

Filming was cancelled today due to one of actors unable to attend.

Filming will now take place on Monday 18th October

Our Target audience

The target audience is a very important factor to think about when completing our production. I selected a small group of 5 people aged 16-33 of both genders. I have chosen to use this group of people as this will be the age range for our targeted audience. After gathering research of their favourite music videos I then analysed my data. I also asked my audience to consider their favourite section in their music videos which would allow me to see any similarities or trends.

The results:

Emma - aged 18

Favourite genre: Pop

Favourite music video: Rhianna, Only Girl

What do you think of our idea for our music video?
I really like how your incorporating a real girly genre into you video.

Sian - aged 18

Favourite genre: R'n'B/Rap
Favourite music video: Jessie J - Price Tag

What do you think of our idea for our music video?

I think your going for a really professional look, I like the idea that it will relate to our own age group.

Rosie - aged 19

Favourite genre: Indie/Pop

Favourite music video: Bruno Mars - Just the way you are

What do you think of our idea for our music video?

It sounds like a really good idea, I love the idea of extra actors!

Nicola - aged 29

Favourite genre: Pop

Favourite music video: Lady Gaga - Bad Romance

What do you think of our idea for our music video?

I love it! It will be great if you could include some quick and tight editing to add a dramatic effect!

Lucy - aged 22

Favourite genre: Indie

Favourite Music video: Example - Kick Starts

What do you think of our idea for our music video?

It's a really good idea, I like your co-ordinating costume ideas

Conclusion: All of my responses have a similar style of music. They all believe our idea is on track for being successful and have added that they would like to see the stylistic influences of a girl band to be included and some quick and tight editing!

The Script

This script will be for our actors Emily and Joe. We have arranged to film this sequence at the beginning of the video before the music starts which will create a dramatic opening and give the audience a basic knowledge of the story line.

1. An establishing shot of the house (2 seconds)
2. An extreme close up of Emily's hand opening the door (1 second)
3. A long shot of Emily walking out the door (2 seconds)
4. (From a different angle) A long shot of Emily pulling her suitcase (2 seconds)
5. A long shot of Joe following Emily

'Speech'
Joe: Emily, Wait!
(He grabs her shoulder, she turns and shot reverse shot starts)
Emily: What? Im leaving you.
(she pushes him out of the way, and we see a long shot)
Joe: Why? What have I done?

There is then a flashback sequence of us four girls with Joe. This tells the audience that Joe is cheating. (The whole sequence will only last maximum 4 seconds)
There is a silent pause and then a close up of Emily's reaction

The music then starts.

Intertextuality in our production

Intertextuality is a term for showing how media products relate to each other by following significant features. Therefore the audience can immediately recognise the genre.

Planning Flashback shots

After discussing as a group, we decided on what shots we want our video to include.

Shots that we want to include to begin our music video: (these will play before the music starts which will give the audience a quick and dramatic story overview)
- An establishing shot of the location and house
- A close up action shot of the moving suitcase
- A long shot of Emily leaving the house
- A double shot of Emily and Joe leaving the house
- Joe and Emily's conversation using shot - reverse - shot

Flashbacks we intend to use during the song:
- A mirrored shot of both Emily and Joe
- A close up of both actors
- A double shot
- A long shot of them both
- A high angle shot of Emily reading a text
- A medium close up of the two arguing
- Extreme close up of Emily's reaction

Flashbacks that we plan to use at the end of the song:
- A sequence shot of Emily leaving the house
- A low angle shot of Emily walking down the stairs
- Close up of Joe's reaction

11/10/10 Quick Update

What we need to do this week:
- Upload animatic to the blog
- Plan Emily and Joe's flashback shots
- Film Emily and Joe's shots which we have set aside for Wednesday
- Upload any research and ideas
- Start research for our ancillary tasks

Contact with The Saturdays and social networking

There are many ways these days in which fans can contact their role models. As a 'Saturday's' fan myself I have researched ways in which I could contact the girl group and other recording artists.

As a start, The Saturdays currently have their own website.

The website allows fans to gather updates about the group and find out where they will be performing and when.
To the top right of the website there are links to social networking sites,
- Twitter
- Myspace
- You Tube
- Facebook

I logged onto my Twitter and as I was already following the girl band and I took a look at their profile. Each Saturday has their own Twitter account so it is easy for me as a fan to get updating on news and locations of The Saturdays! I believe Twitter is the most effective social networking site to contact a celebrity! Each profile is their own and they update and check it regularly.

The most effective networking site for listening to new music is Myspace! The social networking site enables fans to listen to new singles and brand new artists! If i was to contact The Saturdays I would not do this via Myspace as this is mainly for new upcoming artists.

You Tube is a very popular site for sharing videos, in the music industry artists use You Tube to display new singles and receive feedback. There are many negative things that can be passed through You Tube and recording artists only use this site for a basic impression.

Facebook is home to 30,000 users and is the biggest of the social networking sites. The Saturdays also have a Facebook page and is liked by currently 683,463 other Facebook users. The Saturdays can be contacted here by wall post or private message. I believe this is the most effective way of contacting the group!

So after exploring the ways of social networking and how to contact The Saturdays, I have concluded that the most effective way of contacting them would be via a wall post on Facebook. The comment would stand out and get many replies (most probably from other fans)
