Editing while I was away...
When I came back from my holiday I was updated by the girls what had been done and was able to preview this work.
1. They had completed the first chorus, first verse, second verse and second chorus.
What they did to the first verse:
Most of the first verse had already been completed, the group added in a reaction shot of Joe into this verse by using the razor tool and slotting it into the reel in the correct time slot which we had previously prepared. They also added in a zooming effect between Joe's reaction shot and the first shot of the chorus to show a separate storyline.
The first chorus:
A series of shorter shots were used here in order to speed up and include us all into the sequence.
Problems my group faced:
- Time consuming
- Jodie's lip syncing was out of time. Some words were in place but some were not... the shot was reduced to the speed of 97%
The second verse:
1. Sophie's lip syncing was cut down in order to fit in the reel.
2. Incorporating both camera angles into the verse
3. Sophie's shots were used by some did not follow due to different angles. The space was left blank for a flashback.
4. The razor tool was used to cut out some of Jodie's lines as they took up too much space.
Adding Flashbacks:
1. Footage was carefully selected to go in between longer shots.
2. The shots were chosen and changed to black and white.
3. One of Emily's shots (through the window) was too long so this was cut down and a shot of Joe was included as an alternative.
When I viewed this verse I thought the girls had done an extremely excellent job with matching the shots to the beat. It made it seem very professional.
The second chorus:
What was included in this chorus?
1. A choreography scene
2. Flashbacks
The girls used the razor tool here to cut short the previous shot of Joe punching the beam.
Flashbacks used:
- Emily on the phone crying
- A birds eye shot of Emily and Joe arguing
By including these flashbacks inbetween lip syncing pieces it showed time passing. It also displayed how the argument continued to build up.
The Anti-climax
The problems that were experienced:
1. The continious shot we had planned had to be edited together and lost its flow.
2. The shots werent to the best of our ability
3. The on flowing sequence was too slow when we reversed it, therefore we had to change this to 200% in order for it to match the music tempo.
As a result we were not happy with our continious section, the girls left it as it was and thought about what else we could include into this space.
